Youngsters going into kindergarten this fall can sign up for a several day program to help provide a wide range of topics with the Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department.
Assistant Director Henry Pohlmeyer says the Safety Camp is from August 5th-8th at the Greene County Community Center from 9-11am. He points out that participants will see lots of guest speakers covering different topics related to overall safety.
“We have Denny Hammen, who is the old director here doing bus safety, he drives (a school) bus now. We’ll have the police department, are offering just like a quick introduction into that world. We have a veterinarian coming in and the PAWS here in town are both doing kind of animal safety, and ambulance is coming in (and) Jack Williams, with the sheriff’s department is doing something with fire safety I believe as well. But there is several other people.”
Pohlmeyer notes that this program is free, due to the sponsorship of the Jefferson Elks Lodge #2306, but space is limited. Contact the community center at 515-386-3412 or click here to sign up.
