The Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District is teaming up with the Ducks Unlimited Iowa for a unique opportunity.

Fred Long is the Chair of the Greene County SWCD and says there is a bus tour scheduled for Wednesday, August 6th of different conservation projects that Ducks Unlimited has helped do in the past, with some being inside and outside of the county. He talks about why the local SWCD and Ducks Unlimited are wanting to put this event on.

“And the whole purpose of it is to show people what some of these projects actually look like and explain how they work and maybe generate even more interest within the Greene County area to implement some more of these practices.”

Brent Kenninger with Ducks Unlimited Iowa will be leading the tour and says some of the sites will be projects at Swan Lake, restored wetlands, among others with most having cost share from either organization. Participants are to meet at the main shelterhouse at Spring Lake Park at 4pm for the bus tour and will return by 6:30pm for a meal with BLT sandwiches, chips and bottled water. Long adds that the event is free, but the registration deadline is August 1st so they can plan the meal. Contact Amber Kenan at the US Department of Agriculture office in Jefferson at 515-386-3817 to sign up.
