"Shifting Gears" by Hilde DeBruyne from Cumming, Iowa
There’s still time left to vote on your favorite sculpture in the 10th Annual Ring Out for Art Contest in downtown Jefferson.
Tower View Team Chair Deb McGinn says there are four new sculptures on the south plaza of the Greene County Courthouse for people to select what they like the best. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio the four finalists are from Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota and for the first time ever, a Canadian has been selected from British Columbia. McGinn talks about the artist Paul Reimer and his sculpture called, “Standing Together,” which includes a 2,000 pound rock base.

“And it’s a grouping of three feathers that represent a family ‘Standing Together.’ And we really liked that message that particular sculpture brought.”
McGinn shares a conversation she had with one of the other artists, Craig Snyder from Minnesota.
“It’s very interesting, he said, ‘People are starting to talk about Jefferson, and the arts, and other artists are talking to me about.’ So, he said, ‘I was well aware of this exhibition that you have down here.’ And he’s a first time exhibitor. That was really encouraging that people are talking about Jefferson that way.”

Each of the finalists received a $1,000 stipend to make and deliver their sculptures. Voting continues until August 15th and people can make their choice inside the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower. McGinn adds that the winning artist will receive an additional $500. She thanks Home State Bank for being the financial supporter of this contest.
