The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) wants to remind drivers of the new hands free driving bill that was signed into law after the most recent Iowa legislative session.
GCSO says that according to the new law, hands free means you can’t hold your phone or electronic device in any way, manually scroll, type or interact with your phone, and can’t enter an address to your GPS while driving. You also can’t stream videos or make video calls, view texts, videos or social media, and can’t call, text or dial unless using the hands free mode or voice activation. Electronic devices include cell phones, laptops, tablets, PDA’s and gaming devices.
GCSO shares that there are ways to help stay hands free, including using an auxiliary cable, bluetooth, a vehicle mount for your device, and speaker phone, along with enabling driving mode on your devices, or using voice commands with your vehicle if it has the capability.
