A Perry man is serving a two-year probation term following a speeding incident this past February.
According to court documents, 35-year-old Wesley Allen Jenkins pled guilty to a Class D Felony of Eluding While Exceeding Speed Limit by 25 miles per hour or more. The charges stemmed from February 14th, when a Perry Police Officer observed a 2009 silver Chevrolet Impala without a front license plate stop facing southbound at the intersection of 18th and McKinley Street.
The criminal complaint states that the vehicle proceeded to turn westbound on Mckinley Street and then the officer identified the driver as Jenkins, which he found out had prior incidents. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but Jenkins failed to yield, leading to a pursuit. Court documents show that Jenkins drove to 11th Street, to Warford Street, and then eastbound onto Willis Avenue, ignoring marked stop signs along the way.
According to the criminal complaint, Jenkins was exceeding 60 miles per hour in a posted 25 mph zone, as he continued all the way to the 3400 block of Willis Avenue, where Jenkins tried to turn, but lost control of his vehicle and collided with a posted city sign, with the Impala coming to a complete stop.
In addition to the two-year probationary period, Jenkins must pay a civil penalty of $1,025 and is ordered to pay pecuniary damages through the Clerk of Court. His charges of a serious misdemeanor of operating without interlock, along with seven traffic violations have been dismissed.
