Another set of construction projects are set at Linduska Field in Jefferson.
Greene County School District Superintendent Brett Abbotts says that with the track portion itself to be resurfaced, the high jump and long jump areas are also going to be renovated. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio why there is this kind of an investment happening at Linduska Field.
“So we set a vision for Linduska Field for our track program to be able to start hosting some meets that would be state qualifying and in order to do that, we really need to improve the spaces.”
Along with that, Abbotts points out there were several safety aspects that were considered as well. He describes the high jump pit as too small to host post season meets and it is starting to crack, making it a possible safety hazard for students. He notes that the renovation will include at least doubling the size of it.
As for the long jump area, Abbotts says those two spaces will be leveled off and the rock surface will be removed and replaced to eliminate another safety issue. He goes over another problem area that is the southwest corner of the south bleachers.
“We’ll get that area cleaned up as well. That’s where our band kind of takes the field, that’s where we have parents line up for during Senior Day. It’s really kind of an unsightly area, so we would like to get that tided up and leveled off as well.”
Abbotts adds that all of these projects are anticipated to be done prior to the official beginning of football season, if not by the 2026 track and field season.
