The Greene County Historical Society is gearing up for its next monthly program and it’s going to be a hot one later this week.
Historical Society member Margaret Hamilton says they are spotlighting the “Fires of Jefferson’s Past” this Friday at 12:45pm at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. She shares that there will be four presenters including Rolfe Blaess, David John, Jed McGee and Eldon Cunningham, who served on the Jefferson Fire Department for 57 years, including being chief for 24 years. Hamilton explains this program has been a long time coming for at least one of the presenters and members of the Historical Society.
“Well David John has been wanting to do a program on that for absolutely years. And he got to talking to Rolfe Blaess and Rolfe Blaess was telling him about fires and David got really excited about it. And so, he’s been going on and on about it for years and trying to get me to do one and we just didn’t have anybody who would agree to give it with him.”
The program at 12:45pm is free, but lunch will be served prior to it at noon for $12. Contact the Historical Society by tomorrow to reserve a meal by calling 515-386-408.
