
Severe weather hit the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area late on Monday night, with strong winds in Greene County.
The National Weather Service issued an initial severe thunderstorm warning at 10:51pm for northwestern Greene County as a storm was located along a line extending four miles north of Sac City to near Kiron to near Ute, moving southeast at 45 miles per hour. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team took to the airwaves at 11:07pm. According to Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams, there was not much activity with no rain and no winds.
However, at 11:26pm, a new severe thunderstorm warning was issued to northwestern Greene County and Williams reported that the county was seeing 40 miles per hour winds, but still no rain. At approximately 12:18am, the National Weather Service expired the severe thunderstorm warning for northwestern Greene County.
There were two staff members apart of the Raccoon Valley Radio Severe Weather Action Team, also being joined by Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams and Weatherology. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team provides live coverage of severe thunderstorm or tornado warnings for Dallas, Guthrie, and Greene counties until the storms move out of the coverage area or drop below severe levels.
