The Greene County School Board recently approved a couple of larger scale technology purchases ahead of the upcoming year.
The Board approved to replace all 92 Clevertouches that are in classrooms across the district. Superintendent Brett Abbotts says these are the touch screens that are used by the teachers to display, model and manipulate lessons and other educational items. He explains that these devices last for five years and all of them are at end of their life.
“They come end of life in October (of 2025) and looking at our summer project worksheet, realizing that we did have the available funds to make it happen, prior to the 2025-26 school year, we decided to kind of pursue those.”
The total cost for 92 Clevertouches that the Board approved was from Bluum for $140,598. Another purchase the Board approved was for $61,400 to replace 200 Dell Chromebooks. Abbotts notes that this is an annual purchase which he describes the typical process that the district follows when integrating these student devices.
“So fourth and fifth grade usually see those new ones and as our departing (high school) seniors, we allow them to keep the ones they have, we try to recycle some of the older or damaged ones that kind of happen throughout the year.”
Abbotts acknowledges the work by Technology Director Brent Gerzema to find the best deals for these technology items so that students can have a similar device that they are used to. He adds that both purchases were made from the district’s Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) and Sales Tax funds.
