The Greene County Farmers Market continues to be on Tuesdays at the Greene County Fairgrounds in Jefferson and there is a program that certain families and individuals can take advantage of.
Farmers Market Manager Jean Walker says any low income family, the elderly and families with young children can qualify for a $5 weekly food voucher that can be used at the Greene County Farmers Market. She states that the vouchers can not be used on processed foods as she gives some examples of that including basked goods.
“And by that I mean if a vendor has say cut watermelon, they cut it in half and they just have half, they’re not allowed to buy that. They can buy (a) whole watermelon. And same thing with like honey, they can buy fresh honey as long as it’s not processed.”
Walker adds that applications are available at the Greenewood Community Center. The Greene County Farmers Market is on Tuesdays from 4-6pm through mid-September.
