From one family to another, Raccoon Valley Radio changes its ownership to a familiar name in the communities that it serves.

John and Jen McGee purchased the three station company of Raccoon Valley Radio from long-time owner Mel and Holly Suhr, who also own four other stations in southern and southeastern Iowa. Mel and Holley Suhr, known as M & H Broadcasting, purchased Raccoon Valley Radio in February of 2012, which included the three stations of KDLS in Perry, KGRA in Jefferson and KKRF in Stuart.

John McGee was named the general manager of RVR, after serving with M & H Broadcasting from 1997-98, then stepped away from the company after marrying his wife Jen and then coming back in October of 2020. John started as an account executive, the local sales manager, general sales manager and director of sales. Jen has been the traffic manager for RVR since 2012. One of their sons, Sean, has been the station’s broadcast engineer since 2020 and played an important role in the remodel of the Perry station.

After one year in the making, August 1st marks the first day that McGee Management Services officially takes over ownership. The McGees express their deepest gratitude to Mel and Holly as they are looking forward to retirement. They would also like to thank the financial and economic development partners who have helped with this transition. Those entities include Raccoon Valley Bank, Home State Bank, and Iowa Area Development Group partners, Guthrie County REC and Minburn Communications. Check out more on this story on Monday as we sit down with the McGees for Monday’s Let’s Talk programs on all three stations.
