As the calendar is being flipped over to the month of August, the first weekend gives people the opportunity to save some money with their purchases in the state of Iowa.

According to the Iowa Department of Revenue, the state’s sales tax holiday runs from today until midnight tomorrow. Perry Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti shares that not all items are tax free, only eligible materials including clothing and school supplies. She highlights that this is an excellent time to show appreciation for local businesses.

“As you’re getting things ready for back to school, and you’re taking advantage of those discounts, be thinking of ways you can also do that locally. So be thinking about how you can support local businesses because they are here for you year-round, and they have items for you to choose from.”

Pasutti believes that purchasing items locally is a great way to invest back into the community, plus form bonds with businesses in Perry.
