Several Greene County 4-H’ers competed in a specialized livestock show last weekend.

According to Greene County ISU Extension Summer Assistant Haylee Wachter, seven Greene County 4-H’ers went to the Heartland Throwdown, including Avril and Becca Shahan, Paisley and Stella Lautner, Owen Frederick, Lauren Oakes, and Bryce Stephenson. Wachter says Avril earned Champion Breeding Ewe and Champion Showman Breeding Ewe, along with Becca being named as Champion Market Lamb. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that both Shahan girls advanced to the All Iowa Showdown which takes place tomorrow in Oskaloosa.

Wachter adds that the Heartland Throwdown is a livestock show that consists of the overall breeding and market animals from several county fairs. She says the exhibitors come together to compete to be the top and then advance to the All Iowa Showdown.
