A major upgrade is coming to one of the Greene County parks soon.
Greene County Conservation Board Director Tanner Scheuermann says they received a $35,000 Greene County Community Foundation grant to help install a new water source with the Xenia Rural Water District at Squirrel Hollow Park. He points out that currently there is a water well at the park and as part of a developed master plan for that park, Scheuermann explains why they wanted to move away from the well.
“We kind of did some feasibility studies and kind of some pricing (such as) would it make sense to keep the well, to retain the well?’ Or would it make more sense and be more cost effective to bring in rural water in? Well in talking with our engineers and some of the other counties and decided, ‘Yup, it’s time to bring rural water into Squirrel Hollow Park.’”
Scheuermann states that with the reconstruction of the pedestrian bridge last year at Squirrel Hollow Park, the implementation of rural water would be the next plan in the master plan. He says there is going to be a public open house to review the master plan and ask questions, as well as voice more ideas. Scheuermann adds that after the rural water is installed, there is a proposed small shower house, a dump station, and other amenities that could be included. He thanks GCCF for their generous grant and he is hoping that the project can still happen later this year.
