A Churdan man was recently arrested for allegedly causing property damage.
According to court documents, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation on May 30th after receiving a phone call from a property owner that an abandoned vehicle was stuck in a crop field on their property. During the investigation, court documents show an unmanned aerial device was used to track the alleged path of the vehicle. It was determined that the vehicle left the roadway in the 1200 block of 170th Street, drove approximately one mile into a crop field, and then tried to get out via a field drive, but the vehicle was stuck. The damage to the crop field was estimated to be $3,000.
The criminal complaint shows that investigators found evidence that the supposed driver may have been at Wild Rose Casino in Jefferson. Court documents report that investigators worked with the casino surveillance team and the assigned Division of Criminal Investigation Agent of the casino to determine that the vehicle was in the parking lot the night before and identified the driver.
According to court documents, the ignition key was missing from the vehicle that was now at the law enforcement impound lot and investigators believed that since the vehicle was found between the casino parking lot and the identified driver’s residence, that a search warrant was then executed on June 9th, where the ignition key was found at the driver’s residence. An arrest warrant was issued on July 9th charging 57-year-old Jay Orsack of Churdan with a Class D Felony for second degree criminal mischief. Orsack was then arrested on July 18th, was booked and then released from the Greene County Jail after posting a $5,000 surety bond.
