The Greene County Board of Supervisors met on Monday in regular session.

The meeting began with an update from County Attorney Thomas Laehn on the open meetings policy. He said that part of the county’s policy was that if a County Supervisor was participating remotely for a Board meeting, they were not allowed to vote. However, Laehn pointed out that a state law that was passed last year does allow supervisors to vote remotely. He recommended changing the county’s policy to reflect the same, which the Board agreed with.

County Engineer Wade Weiss said the Highway 30 resurfacing project had a delay because of having to remove come laid concrete and that it would push the completion date from mid-August to September. He also talked about submitting a letter of support for a grant application for a grant to repave a portion of the Raccoon River Valley Trail for Greene and Guthrie Counties.

Next, the Board approved a request from the Iowa State Association of Counties for a statement of work for $4,000 to participate in a Pay-It-Forward Initiative for technology assessment. It was mentioned that the program included information technology experts to do an assessment of existing programs and infrastructure for two weeks, starting in September. The final report would include solution recommendations for any issues that are found.

Then, the Board approved to direct the County Attorney to obtain additional information from the lowest bidder for the HVAC renovation project on the Greene County Courthouse, which is allowed under state law. Finally, the Board approved to pay $113,000 to the Iowa Communities Assurance Pool (ICAP) for insurance from the Secondary Roads Department.
