The Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for a huge annual celebration on Saturday.
The chamber is hosting the 46th Annual Sweet Corn Festival, featuring lots of activities. Chamber President Erin Milroy explains that it’s a beloved tradition in the Adel community, which attracts an average of 11,000 people each year. She details that people are invited to stop by starting on Friday at 4:30pm as they can help shuck corn on the south side of the Adel Police and Fire Station on South 10th Street.
Milroy expresses that Saturday begins with a 5K run/walk at 7:30am, followed by Dallas County’s largest parade at 9:30am, then has vendors, fun games, plus the main spectacle of eating sweet corn. Milroy is serving in her first year as the Adel Partners Chamber President, and is looking forward to seeing it all come together.
“I am really excited to see every piece of this puzzle fall into place. It’s been amazing to watch (with) so many helping hands bringing energy, ideas, and heart to make this event truly unforgettable.”
Milroy illustrates that there will be a couple of honorees with Josh Shull, who was named the Chamber’s Citizen of the Year, and Uptown Vintage Market, which is the Business of the Year. She adds that a new feature this year is recognizing an aspiring Adel-DeSoto-Minburn student as the “Colonel Kid” who displays community spirit, which will be Sage Young. The full festival runs Saturday from 7:30am-midnight. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio will be in attendance on Saturday from 9am-6pm.
