The Perry City Council met on Monday night in regular session.
The Council approved a resolution for the professional service agreement with Bolton and Menk of $499,750 for the first phase of the downtown improvement project, with a scheduled late start date of construction by this fall. The Council then approved another resolution to authorize returning unspent money from a General Aviation Vertical Infrastructure Airport Program grant that was issued by the Federal Aviation Administration. Following discussions and several roadblocks for the airport commission of not having enough space to build a new terminal, the decision was made to return the unused funds.
Additionally, the Council approved the tenth pay estimate for the Iowa Street Stormwater Wetland project of $58,183 for Sandstone Management to reseed the area and then monitor to make sure it doesn’t get eroded. They also approve the 13th pay estimate of $15,051 for work completed on the upper story living project on 2nd Street that is owned by the Nudgers Kerns Managers, as part of the Community Development Block Grant.
Next, the Council approved a resolution to adopt a policy for city employees to wear a special Guardian Angel Personal Safety Light when on a job site for better visibility to motorists. They also approved an amendment to an ordinance to update the rules and regulations for the airport, along with publishing a notice for the council to appoint a city council vacancy. According to Marketing and Engagement Coordinator Chris Cohea, Councilmember At-Large Chuck Schott resigned, after serving 15 years on the council, due to moving out of city limits.
Cohea said the Council intends to make appointment to fill the vacancy and that interested individuals must submit a letter to be considered to City Hall by noon on August 28th, with the appointment to take place at the Council meeting on September 2nd at 6pm.
