Several law enforcement and other first responders in Greene County conducted a training exercise last Thursday.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams said an active shooter scenario took place at Greene County High School that involved the Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson Police and Fire Departments, Greene County Ambulance, Greene County Medical Center and the High School Principal Karen Shannon. He shared what happened during the training.
“We did all the way from the start. As soon as the school notified us (law enforcement) of an active shooter, the school went into lock down. We basically walked through the whole process from finding the shooters and dealing with the shooters, and then getting injured people out to the ambulances, and then of course from the ambulances to the hospital.”
Williams explained why these types of exercises are good to do periodically.
“We just do it to make sure if anything ever happens we’re ready for it. It’s good for everybody to practice together as one big team, and it just builds comradery, and easier work when stuff does happen, everybody works together as one team.”
Williams thought the training went well and that the most important thing he was on the lookout for was communication between all of the entities involved. He added talking to each other and knowing what types of actions everyone needs to take is crucial for these situations.
