Today is a huge annual event put on by the Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce, revolving around one of Iowa’s staple foods.
The chamber is holding the 46th Annual Sweet Corn Festival, with a packed day of activities. According to President Erin Milroy, the day has a 5K Run/Walk, a parade, a bags tournament, a car show, and ends the night with a street party. She highlights the main attraction of the day is indulging in the delicious sweet corn available, as approximately 11,000 people visit each year.
“There’s a lot of buzz and excitement, anticipation, and teamwork from our local civic groups, business, and I think help introduce what Adel’s charm and spirit are for local communities to come and visit, which we are excited to invite others to our community and celebrate with us.”
Milroy notes that this year’s honorees include Josh Shull as the Chamber’s Citizen of the Year; Uptown Vintage Market, the Business of the Year, and Sage Young, an aspiring Adel-DeSoto-Minburn student, who was nominated by the chamber to be named to inaugural Sweet Corn Festival “Colonel Kid.” The festival is an all-day celebration from 7:30am-midnight. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio will be in attendance today from 9am-6pm.
