NBA Coach Nick Nurse

Nick Nurse, a Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) High School graduate and NBA Championship coach held the Nick Nurse Foundation Golf and Music Festival in Carroll Aug. 7-8. Now the head coach of the Philadelphia 76’ers, Nurse won an NBA Championship with the Toronto Raptors. He played collegiately at the U. of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

Although the events were in Carroll, there were some celebrity sitings in Jefferson because of the event. The 76’ers were said to have stayed in Jefferson and U. of Iowa football and men’s basketball play-by-play announcer Gary Dolphin was spotted checking into a hotel here.

The Nick Nurse Foundation has donated many thousands of dollars in the U.S. and Canada including musical instruments and other benefits to schools in Iowa. Those wishing to learn more information and/or donate can visit the Nick Nurse Foundation’s website.
