Following the announcement of two corporations that are building facilities in the Perry community, the leader of the public works department discusses infrastructure necessities.

Earlier this year, Italian-based company A.D.R. Axles declared they wanted to build their North American headquarters in Perry. Not long after, JBS USA unveiled that they’re going to create a 150,000 square foot sausage production facility. The Perry City Council said the structures were going to be in the Industrial Park area.

Public Works Director Josh Wuebker explains that their office is currently working with their engineering team and the Iowa Department of Transportation to apply for a “Rise Grant.” He illustrates that the grant would help transform L Avenue from a gravel road to concrete, as he lists the benefits for each company.

“Do some stormwater stuff and then run sanitary and water up to the job site. JBS (USA) can put their wastewater into the pipes that would go to the plant, they’ll have water from the water department coming up that area (and) same thing for A.D.R. (Axles).”

Wuebker outlines that there is a Highway 141 Study to determine if a traffic light needs to be put on the corner of Willis Avenue and Highway 141. He emphasizes that if Perry receives the Rise Grant, then that would allow the city serious consideration to place a traffic light at the busy intersection. Wuebker is optimistic that Perry will be able to move forward with both of these projects.
