The leader of the Dallas County Secondary Roads Department outlines several bridge projects that are underway, or gearing up to happen in central Iowa.

Dallas County Engineer Al Miller tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the roads department recently began a project on B Avenue, north of Linden, where crews removed the previous bridge to do grading, and are installing a new bridge with a new contractor. He notes that a similar process will be done to a bridge on Ivy Avenue towards the south of Perry. Miller says the rain has played more of a factor in 2025 compared to previous years.

“We got kind of spoiled here the last few years as far as construction is concerned because it never rained and unfortunately that’s not good for most people, but this year is a little more normal rain showers, and we’re dealing with that a little bit, but a little bit normal of a construction season.”

Miller reveals that the roads department is preparing for a spring project in 2026 to work on a bridge along H Avenue, which is about half a mile south of Highway 44 in Colfax Township.
