Greene County continues to do well at this year’s Iowa State Fair.

According to Greene County FFA, they finished in first place as a team for the Equastrian Award. Greene County was led by Madison Higgins who was the Grand Champion in four categories and the Overall Reserve Champion High Point Exhibitor. The other FFA member that did well was Dakota Ostrander who was the Overall Champion Purple/Plaque Winner.

Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says the two communication working exhibits received top honors, including a Seal of Excellence for Ella Tasler and Becca Anderson about sun safety and Rylan Hostetler earned a Seal of Merit with this only being his second year presenting at the state fair.

“That’s always a really cool project because he takes the opportunity of educational presentations in 4-H and educates people on the rare condition that his sister has and about the Ronald McDonald House.”

Anderson also received a Seal of Merit for her personal development communication exhibit. Other top finishers for the 4-H static exhibitors included Braydon Theulen who was tabbed for the Professional Photographers of Iowa Consideration Award and Eli Hardaway was the Judge’s Choice with his personal development self-determined exhibit.

Hardaway says 4-H’ers did very well in the largest number of entries for livestock in sheep. Avril Shahan was the Champion Junior Showman for Sheep, along with the Champion in two other categories and Breanna Pope was 5th place overall.

Finally, in the open classes, Lou Blanchfield from Churdan was 1st place for watercolor, Tanya Jackson from Scranton earned 1st place in the Adult Open Class-Tiered Cake, Muir Family Farms from Rippey was 1st place in their class for Purebred Breeding Heifer Manie-Anjou and one act from Jefferson qualified for the second round in the Bill Riley Talent Show with eight-year-old Iyla Rossmainth in the Sprout Division for lyrical dance solo.
