The Panora City Council met in regular session Monday night.
The Council heard a report from Pat Steele with the Raccoon River Valley Trail Association, and approved an Eagle Scout project by Connor Deardorff to paint a mural at Veteran’s Auditorium in the Cub/Boy Scout meeting room. They also approved a skate park at Michael Mills Park with final site approval once funding is secured, along with placing security cameras in the park. The Council then approved a Community Development Building Grant (CDBG) contract in the amount of $24,703, and another for $7,010.
The council members also discussed primitive camping at Waterworks Park, noting that not many people were camping there. Guthrie County Conservation Director Brad Halterman was also in attendance, and shared that there weren’t many people using the county owned side of the river either. So the council directed City Administrator Lisa Grossman to prepare a proposed code amendment to eliminate camping as a permitted use at the park, and have it available for review at the next Council meeting. A discussion was held on the Title III Community Protection and Title IV Mental and Physical Health of the updated 2025 Code of Ordinances, which the council tabled a decision until a later date.
