The Greene County Historical Society is hosting a free program tomorrow about the Prisoner of War (POW) camps that were located in Iowa during World War II.

According to Program Director Margaret Hamilton, the guest speaker is Chad Timm, who works at Simpson College as the Director of Honors Education and who did a dissertation on POW camps, will be giving a presentation tomorrow at 2pm at the Greene County Museum in Jefferson. Hamilton points out that this program almost didn’t happen after the federal government cut the grants that the Humanities of Iowa received and would have sponsored Timm.

Hamilton states that after Timm agreed to do the program for a reduced rate of $100, a $300 grant from Barbara Vonderhaar McShane with the McShane Family Endowment of the Arts brought the full rate back up to $400. She says they are grateful for the grant. The free program is open to the public with refreshments to be served.
