A Ralston man was recently sentenced to prison for a drunk driving incident in Greene County.
According to court documents, 34-year-old Travis Smith pled guilty to an amended charge of an aggravated misdemeanor for his second offense for an OWI and another aggravated misdemeanor for driving while barred. Court documents show that he was sentenced to four years in prison.
The charges stem from an incident that happened on August 25, 2024, when Smith left the scene of a single vehicle rollover crash after he had been traveling behind another driver that lost control on a curve and rolled the vehicle, killing the other motorist. The criminal complaint states that Smith claimed his uncle was driving the vehicle, and he was later found to have consumed alcohol and that he was the driver of the other vehicle.
Court documents show that Smith was ordered to pay over $1,800 in fines and surcharges. As per the plea agreement, Smith pled guilty to the amended OWI charge that was originally a Class D Felony for his third or subsequent offense for an OWI.
