Following a multi-vehicle collision on Iowa Highway 141 just outside Perry this past Tuesday, Police Chief Jim Archer provides more information about the people involved.

Archer tells Raccoon Valley Radio that officers responded to a report of a crash at the intersection of Highway 141 and Willis Avenue around 1:24pm. He explains that a 2017 Ford Escape, operated by 25-year-old Grace Babbits from Shohola, Pennsylvania, was coming from the north out of Soumas Avenue by the Casey’s General Store, then was sitting in the median to proceed onto Willis Avenue.

Archer notes that Babbits believed she was cleared to cross, and did not see a Wayne Transports semi-trailer, which was driven by 28-year-old Dylan Gill from Union, who collided with her vehicle, causing damage to the front bumper and passenger side. He says that Gill’s semi struck the Escape with the front left rear wheel and axle. Archer mentions that a third vehicle was hit with debris from the crash, and that was a 2015 White Chevrolet Camaro, operated by 63-year-old Keith Churchill from Carroll.

Archer describes that there were non-life threatening injuries to Babbits, as she was initially examined by paramedics and then privately went to the Dallas County Hospital to be checked out. He outlines the Ford Escape was totaled at $10,000, the semi-trailer suffered $10,000 due to the damage to the rear axle of the trailer, and the Camaro was listed at $1,000.

Archer confirms that all the drivers were wearing their seatbelts, but Babbits was cited with Failure to Yield Upon Entering a Through Highway. He adds that the agencies that assisted the Perry Police Department included the Perry Fire Department and the Dallas County Emergency Medical Services Department.
