A senior from the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Girls Cross Country team discusses discovering the bigger picture when she’s competing.
Rhyan Miller explains that coming into this season, she is looking to build on her mental motivation, as she knows it correlates to running faster times. In terms of trying to hit a specific time goal, Miller details that she’s going to get a feel for how the first meet unfolds, then go from there. She reveals her strategy in a race when she might be struggling through pain.
“When I run, I think about who I’d be running for, and then that really motivates me when I’m starting to feel down. I’ll think about my friends and my parents and how proud they’ll be of me after I get done with my race.”
Miller describes she loves doing negative split workouts, where the pace is slower to start then increasingly ramps up. She highlights that she spent most of the summer visiting colleges to determine where she’d like to attend following graduation in the spring of 2026. The first meet for the Tigers is Saturday, August 30th in Johnston.
