An attempted murder charge against a Jefferson teen has been dismissed, hearing to transfer to juvenile court remains on the docket.
According to court documents, in June District Court Judge Adria Kester granted a motion to dismiss a Class B Felony charge for attempted murder against 16-year-old Keegan Kennedy of Jefferson. Kennedy is accused of shooting the victim in the face when he was riding in a vehicle in Sac County on May 4th, and before that had allegedly pistol whipped the victim several times. Court documents show that the reasons for the dismissal, that the Sac County Attorney’s Office agreed with, included not enough evidence to prove the attempted murder charge beyond a reasonable doubt and it was in the best interest of justice and judicial economy when weighing the charge against a jury and the allocation of prosecutorial resources.
Court documents show that Kennedy is still charged with a Class C Felony for willful injury. A motion has been made to reschedule a hearing for a possible transfer of jurisdiction to juvenile court, as well as a possible regular jury trial is slated for the end of September.
