The 2025 Iowa State Fair is now over and residents of Dallas County came home with plenty of hardware.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship recognized four Dallas County farms, one Heritage and three Century Farm awards. The Heritage distinction went to the Brewer Farms from Dallas Center, while Dallas Center’s Genevieve Kay Knoll Trust and Doree Ward, and David and Jennifer Felt from Adel were recognized in the Century Farm award. According to the Iowa Department of Ag and Land Stewardship, to be selected as a Century or Heritage Farm, the farmland needs to have at least 40 acres of original farmland, have consecutive ownership within the same family for 100 or 150 years or more respectively, and the present farm owner must be related to the original landowner.

As for the 4-H communication exhibits, 31 blue ribbons and 14 red ribbons were awarded. In the 4-H Livestock and Horticulture portion, Autry Gage won five first places in the food categories including cucumber for pickling six specimens, the Tomatillo, husk on and opened, three specimens, and the Vegetable Container Display; while Rhys Phillips won the Pumpkin large eight inches in diameter and over one specimen; the Gourds, small ornamentals, Autumn Wings, three specimens; the Spoon or Globe, three specimens; and the Assorted, three specimens; then Ashton Conover was named Champion Berkshire Breeding Gilt, and Kinsey Hick placed first in the Crossbred Market Barrows.

For Fine Art and Photography, Perry’s Heather Malmberg and Dallas Center’s Lori Githens were selected to have her piece displayed. Ryan Lewis from Adel won in the Cacti or Succulent Plant and Elephant Ear categories. In the Creative Arts and Crafts category, Lucas Bauer from Adel was first in the Farm Life Youth Class, and Adel’s Cole McFarland had his piece displayed for Oenology.

The FFA Breeding Meat Goat saw Adel-DeSoto-Minburn’s Tucker Luellen become the Grand Champion Registered Doe. Conover Livestock from Adel was first for the Intermediate Heifer Calf, the Intermediate Bull Calf, and was named Reserve Grand Champion Bull. Perry’s Sam Greiman was first in the Early Senior Heifer Calf, while Dallas Center’s Joe Brewer was first for Senior Yearling Bull, the Two Year Old Bull, and was Champion and Reserve Champion V Bull.

In the Horse and Pony division, Adel’s Leslie Herron won in the Hackney and Harness category, also in the Roadster Pony Single, the Roadster Pony Stake, the Western Country Pleasure Driving, Western Country Pleasure Driving Stake, and Open Pleasure Driving, Adel’s Hannah Borst won in the Amateur Showmanship, in the Western Stock Halter Gelding for 34 and Under, and the Carriage Driving Single Horse. For the Western division, Perry’s Khole Colby was first for Premier Western Walk and Trot, as well as the Junior Western Pleasure 5 and Under.
