The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Tuesday.
The board discussed a couple of items regarding meeting procedures and accessibility. In the past, Supervisor Julia Helm has talked about wanting to release the agenda packet to the public, as well as recording their meetings to be as transparent as possible. Information Technology Project Coordinator Rachele Lande gave a presentation to the board of what it would look like to post the agenda, including the supporting documents, on the website.
Supervisor Chair Kim Chapman and Supervisor Brad Golightly were fine with the decision, but they stated that the agenda would still become available on the website on Fridays, then the public would be able to see the whole packet that following Monday. After that, the board took action to approve rolling that system out to allow the packet on the county’s website. The board also then agreed to begin recording the meetings in the board room, as Tri-City Electric would set that up in the amount of $10,871. The board is considering putting recording software in two conference rooms, but more discussion was warranted from the Supervisors before making that choice.
Other items on the agenda that were approved included a recommendation for Terracon to complete construction testing and inspections for the Dallas County Evidence Storage Building and Firing Range in the amount of $19,685, a resolution to redistrict the county supervisor districts into five sections, a sheriff’s office vehicle purchase request to buy two 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe’s for $50,000, and then a resolution to appoint several members to the amended Eminent Domain Commission and a resolution to appoint Oliver Bardwell and Kent Swensen to the Board of Adjustment.
Also, the board accepted a request from Iowa Workforce Development to use their parking east of the courthouse for a mini-job fair on September 10th, and set a public hearing for Pitney Bowes Postage Meter Lease for September 2nd at 9:30am inside the Board of Supervisors Meeting Room, 800 Court Street, in Adel.
