Last month, President Donald Trump started communicating with major pharmaceutical companies to bring down their drug prices.
Sources say, President Trump sent letters to 17 of those companies detailing how to cut their drug prices to better compete with medications made in other countries and giving them 60 days to comply. Senator Chuck Grassley says the pharmaceutical manufacturers are not required to obey the President’s wants, but he thought they should try to adhere to it and that drug prices should come down. He talks about another bill that the President is in favor of that he co-sponsored called the PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Managers) Transparency Act.
According to the bill, it would direct the Federal Trade Commission to stop what Grassley refers to as deceptive and unfair price schemes for drugs that individuals take across the country.
“And I hope before the end of the year that under the leadership, with me cooperating with him, Dr. (Bill) Cassidy, Chairman of the (Senate) Health Committee, he wants to (have) the PBM legislative as part of the last appropriation bill of this year, and I hope he can get that job done and I’m encouraging it.”
Grassley adds that the Trump Administration has other ways of bringing drug prices down, which he believes should be pursued.
