The school year is about to begin for Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center, and Interim High School Principal Cody Matthewson is ready to take on the new role.

Matthewson says that all but two teachers in the building were teaching there last year, so he’s excited to see so many familiar faces, noting that it will help keep some familiarity and consistency for the students as well. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio about something new that he’s looking forward to as well.

“I’m really excited about the new cell phone law, and really excited about how kids can’t be on their phones during instructional time. I mean, I’ve never agreed with that to begin with, so now that it’s a law, we have something to lean on there and make sure we have the opportunity to say, ‘It’s not just a school rule, it’s a state law.’ So that is something that I’m really looking forward to.”

Matthewson is also looking forward to seeing the students back in the building, and working with them all once again. He adds that he’d also like to make sure that everyone can work together and give the building a family and community atmosphere.
