With school on the verge of beginning, Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante shares tips to remember relating to safety.

Infante tells Raccoon Valley Radio that motorists should be prepared to see more buses and to properly obey their signals when the stop arms are displayed and the red lights are flashing. He says that some people have a tendency to speed past them, but emphasizes that a lot of bus drivers are either writing down license plates or have cameras that will take a picture, which is then submitted to the sheriff’s office. Infante points out that drivers will need to be mindful of extra-curricular activities as well.

Additionally,

“School sports started already. They’ve been practicing football, volleyball, (and) golf for weeks now, and those buses will be moving at night on the way from whatever city they played football in, or volleyball or whatever. So the buses are going to be just another part of our reality here for the next nine months.”

Infante mentions that yellow school buses normally travel at a slower speed and drivers need to be cautious when passing them. He also warns that if law enforcement catches drivers passing buses while the stop arms are out, then they are at liberty required to issue citations.
