An organization in Perry will hold a celebration tomorrow that honors the variety of cultures that make up the area.
Hispanics United for Perry (HUP) is hosting the Latino Festival tomorrow, with a full day of activities planned. According to Board Member Lynsi Pasutti, this is an event that takes time to recognize the cultural diversity within Perry. She points out that the day begins with the parade at 10am, which will take place on 12th Street and Willis Avenue by the Hamlin Bell Apartments, then the bulk of the activities will happen at Pattee Park from 11am-7pm. Pasutti says an opening ceremony will start at 11:30am, and touches on a cool aspect to kick off the festivities.
“One thing that will be really fun this year is that there’s about a dozen young women in our community that have celebrated their quinceaneras this year, and so they’re all going to come out, they’re going to be in the parade and then they’re going to come out with their beautiful dresses and take photos with the little kids and get introduced during the opening ceremony. So kind of a celebration for them, which is pretty neat.”
Pasutti details that at noon will feature different dance groups, who will perform, including the Perry High School Cheerleaders. She mentions that there are plenty of activities for youth with a petting zoo, balloon art, and bubbles from noon to 3pm. From 2-5pm, Pasutti notes that face painting will be available, as well as piñatas. She adds that at 4pm, HUP will award the Perry Volunteer Fire Department as the Standout Partner in the Community. Pasutti concludes that there will be live entertainment, plus 10 food vendors.
