A Rippey man was taken into custody following a high speed chase, which resulted in colliding with a Perry Police vehicle.

According to court documents, at approximately 10:30pm on Friday, August 15th, the Perry Police Department conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle that Casey’s General Store employees claimed an unidentified male was noticeably drunk and gave a description of the vehicle.

Officers responded to the Casey’s General Store along 1st Avenue relating to an unidentified man that the affidavit shows that during the stop the driver, 30-year-old James Foster, of Rippey had signs of intoxication and instead of putting his keys on the dashboard, he put them into the ignition and drove away, resulting in the high speed pursuit.

The criminal complaint confirms that the chase reached speeds of 100 miles per hour, heading northbound on Clover Avenue. Foster attempted to make a left turn onto 290th Street, but his vehicle came to rest. The report states that James tried to reverse, and hit the front driver side of the Perry Police car, damaging it to the point where the officer couldn’t continue the pursuit.

According to court documents, spikes were set out at 290th Street, and Fosters’ vehicle connected with them, resulting in his truck to stop. He was arrested and charged with two Class D Felonies of eluding-speed over 25 mph and criminal mischief in the 2nd Degree, plus two aggravated misdemeanors of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and Operating While Under the Influence 2nd Offense.

Foster was booked into the Dallas County Jail where he remains on a $14,000 cash only bond. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
