Avery Van Zelderen and the Mustang boys golf team found success during their season opener at Willow Creek Golf Course on Wednesday, defeating the Warriors 276-283. The Mustangs took home the “Battle of the Stick” trophy and had their 2nd best round of golf in school history.

While the Mustang team as a whole found success, junior Van Zelderen lead the charge for the Mustangs, placing first with a score of 67 strokes, shooting four under par. Shooting bogey free, Van Zelderen set the DCG round school record with his 67 stroke performance, while Drake Jordan tied the former school record shooting three under par with a final score of 68 strokes.

With his name now etched into the DCG record books, Van Zelderen and the Mustangs look to keep momentum on their side as they prepare to travel to Jester Park on Wednesday for the Johnston Invitational.
