Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Head Volleyball Coach Trevor Irwin outlines the way he’s preparing his players for life following high school.
Irwin tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he preaches to the girls how crucial it is to communicate out on the floor in order to have success in volleyball matches, but emphasizes that that same communication is critical within the many roles they will play in their personal lives, whether it be in their career, marriage, or in their community. He says there is a second value that he tries to teach the girls about.
“How can we hold ourselves to certain values and standards? And so, how can we be strong? Coach (Charity) Miller likes to say “Strong, Independent Women of ADM.” How can we live up to those expectations and put our best foot forward? And that’s going to help them in volleyball, but then that’s just going to help them continue to be the best people they can be throughout their entire lives.”
The varsity roster has eight seniors on the squad, as they look to charge the Tigers to a deep postseason run. The opening game for ADM is a quadrangular in Adel on Thursday against Council Bluffs Lincoln, Des Moines Christian and Harlan Community, beginning at 4:30pm.
