The leader of the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Football Team assesses how the first year unfolded with him at the helm.
Head Coach Doug Winkowitsch took control of the Tiger football program in 2024, leading them to an 8-3 overall record and losing to Lewis Central in the Class 4A Quarterfinals. Looking back, he shares that what really impressed him was how quickly the boys adjusted to some of the new schemes that were introduced.
Winkowitsch wishes that the team could’ve gotten a little further, but was happy with the resiliency they showed. He describes that as a new coach, it can be tempting to take over a program and completely change things, but he did the opposite.
“Really felt like I needed to just stand back a little bit and not come in here and flip everything over. And I’m glad I did that, I think I absolutely had a few non-negotiable, and some things that we needed to do my way, but all in all, I’ve got a tremendous staff and I think that was probably the best thing that I did was come in and just give them a little bit of time and process myself.”
Winkowitsch details that he wanted to give the other coaches on his staff ownership with their playstyle because they work the boys hard. ADM opens the regular season on Friday at Winterset. Raccoon Valley Radio will carry the broadcast on K107.9 KKRF at 7:30pm.
