One structure on the western edge of Greene County is expected to open this week.

Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss says the bridge on A Avenue that is on the Greene and Carroll County line was recently replaced and it is down to the final punch list items. He points out that the anticipated opening date is hopefully by tomorrow, with crews from the Dixon Construction Company to finish additional work that is off the roadway after that.

Weiss illustrates the contractor had incentives to finish this project before September 1st, due to the harvest season starting up.

“The county line pavement there is a direct avenue between Ralston and obviously the ethanol plant down near Coon Rapids. So it’s heavy truck traffic and that structure had a lot of issues over the years, and it’s nice to get that one done.”

The project was done in conjunction with Carroll County and on March 31st, the Greene County Board of Supervisors approved the contractor in the amount of $855,770 with each county paying half of the price tag. The project also qualified for the federal-aid County Highway Bridge Program.
