As the Labor Day weekend approaches, Dallas County Conservation Director Curt Cable is excited to welcome everyone to their parks with the last major camping outing of the season.

Cable tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Dallas County isn’t home to a lot of campgrounds, but the Conservation Department is in charge of several parks where camping is allowed, including Sportsman Park and Kuehn Conservation Area. He mentions that Labor Day is a good opportunity to rent a campsite because it’s a time where they don’t see as many campers compared to Memorial Day. Cable confirms that the Conservation Department won’t shut off the water at the campsites until the fall.

“We typically try to do it towards the end of October. It’s just very weather dependent on when we do that, we don’t have a strict cut-off date. We say we do just to give people an idea, but we try to give them as much opportunities as possible to come out and enjoy the park.”

Cable illustrates that Sportsman Park has 10 electric campsites, with four of them being reservable for $20 a night, then five non-electric campsites for the same price. He adds that there are several tent camping sites at the Kuehn Conservation Area for $10 a night. To reserve a campsite in Dallas County, click here.
