An important road project near Greene County is slated to be open closer to mid-September.

Jefferson Resident Construction Engineer with DOT Jenny Hoskins says the repaving and reconstruction of US Highway from just west of the Iowa Highway 169 exit near Ogden to the Boone and Greene County line was supposed to be completed by August 15th, but has now been pushed back to September 12th. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio the contractor, Manatt’s currently has crews working on granular shouldering outside of the newly installed concrete, and Manatt’s will have sub-contractors putting in guardrails and rumble strips, along with painting the pavement markings over the next several days.

Hoskins notes that not only was there new concrete laid on the highway, there is a new feature where Highway 30 meets with Iowa Highway 169. She states that there is going to be a a new left turn lane for eastbound traffic on Highway 30 to go north onto Highway 169 that didn’t previously exist. She says everyday that Highway 30 hasn’t opened beyond the scheduled contract completion date of August 15th, Manatt’s has been receiving liquidated damages of $2,000 per day.

Hoskins adds that in the future, one project that is scheduled to be done in 2027 is a bridge replacement over Buttrick Creek in Greene County, along with two other repaving projects that involve the Greene County area, but those have not been implemented into their five-year construction plan. She says these future projects could change depending on funding availability and programming needs.
