Coach Jeff Lamoureux had his Greene County High School girls and boys cross-country teams in action on Thursday for the first time this season. The Rams ran on the golf course in Gowrie during the Southeast Valley Coed Invitational.There were 16 boys’ teams and nine for girls with the Greene County boys finishing in second place and the girls were eighth among nine squads. East Sac County (Wall Lake) was the boys’ winner with 46 points, followed by the Rams at 104 and Manson-Northwest Webster 108. Madrid scored 41 points to win the title for girls while the Rams scored 192 points, just ahead of SEV’s 194.
Junior Brady Carstensen had the best finish by a Greene County runner. He finished in ninth place in 18 minutes, 22.08 seconds for the five kilometers, (3.1 miles). Sophomore Nick Black was fifteenth in 19:03.99, followed by senior Jaden Koller, 20th in 19:27.23, junior Eli Carstensen, 27th in 20:16.23, and sophomore Kole Johnson-Peterson was 33rd in 20:30.68. There were 146 male runners.
Rylee Mowrer led the Greene County girls with a 26th place finish for the 5K. The sophomore was timed in 24:53.44. The other four Rams that had their scores count in the team score were junior Evelyn Snyder, 48th 27:02.55, followed by senior Ava Minnehan, 56th in 28:12.92, senior Leah Mc Cormick, 60th in 29:18.44, and Gwen Simmonds, 72nd in 32:04.57. There were 78 female runners.
