Greene County opened the 2025 high school football season last night in Boone against the Class 4A Toreadors and returned home with a 36-20 non-district victory. Junior Quarterback Zack Stalder threw for three touchdowns and 238 yards in his first varsity start and the defense came up with three turnovers while the Rams had a turnover on its first possession, then went turnover free the rest of the game.

The Rams were up 14-0 before a late second quarter Boone touchdown and extra point made it 14-7 at the half. Greene County scored 15 unanswered points in the third quarter and took at 29-7 lead into the final 12 minutes. Boone made it 29-14 early in the last stanza, but the Rams countered for a 36-14 lead before the Toreadors put the final points on the board with 38.4 seconds remaining.

Stalder was 12-21-1 through the air with a 23 yard TD pass to junior Trevon Keely, a seven yard pass to senior Broc Stream and a 65 yard bomb to junior Brennan Jacobs. Keely was among several Rams with leg camping issues and all six of his catches for 88 yards were in the first half. Senior Christopher Daugherty lead the Rams on the ground with 41 yards on nine carries including TD runs of one and two yards. Stalder also threw to Stream for two conversion points and senior kicker Teagan Chisholm was four for four on extra point kicks.

Boone out gained Greene County 407-314, but the Rams had short fields to work with generally because of the turnovers and kickoff returns. The game was the first in the series since 2017 and the win was the first vs. the Toreadors since 2015.

The first home game of the season is this Friday, Sept. 5 when Woodward-Granger, a 2A top 10 rated team, visits Linduska Field in Jefferson for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The Hawks opened with a 28-21 win vs. Madrid. All Greene County football games can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
