Ahead of the University of Iowa and Iowa State University football game this Saturday, the downtown square in Jefferson will be decked out in the state’s rivalry game.
Jefferson Matters Executive Director Matt Wetrich says the CyHawk Tailgate and Rams Pep Rally is taking place from 5-8pm on Thursday. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio there will be food options, along with inflatables and other games for people to enjoy, starting at 5pm. Then, at 5:15pm will begin the food eating challenge at the intersection of East Lincoln Way and North Wilson Avenue, followed by a baby crawling race at 5:30pm on the west side of the Greene County Courthouse lawn.
Wetrich points out another fun and free activity is music bingo starting at 6:15pm on the courthouse plaza.
“We’ll have the Shuffle Couple on scene for helping (to) play little snippets of some tunes for your bingo card. But then Rick Morain, one of the Mahanay Maestros, is going to be playing some tunes on the Bell Tower as well. So we’re going to mix it back and forth between the two. So, it’ll kind of a be a fun spin on the music bingo and there’ll be prizes for those as well.”
Wetrich notes that at 7:30pm will be the Rams Pep Rally and raffle drawing for the two football tickets to Jack Trice Stadium for Saturday’s game in Ames. Raffle tickets are one for $30, three for $50 and ten for $100 and can be purchased at the Welcome Center or at the tailgate event. Kids and families can then get autographs from the Greene County High School athletes and cheerleaders following the pep rally. Wetrich adds that the south and west sides of the downtown square will be closed starting at 1pm on Thursday.
