This weekend there is a fun fundraising event in Dexter for the West Central Valley School Supply Drive.
Organizer Linda Putney says that the Cavalry Assembly of God Church is hosting a quarter auction, with items from several different vendors available. She mentions that she’s attended similar events that have all been fun, and gotten a lot of people involved at the same time. Putney mentions that a quarter auction works somewhat like Bingo. Attendees purchase a numbered paddle with a corresponding numbered ball that goes in the drawing basket.
When the auction begins, the vendor will display an item, and those interested in bidding place a quarter in a bowl and raise their paddle. Then a number is drawn, and whoever has the number wins the item. If the number matches someone who didn’t bid, then they will continue drawing until they pull someone who did bid.
Some items that will be available include unique craft items, tie dye clothing, jewelry, freeze dried candy and much more. Paddles are available for $1 a piece. The doors for the Dexter Roundhouse will open for the event at 4pm, with the auction to start at 5pm. There will also be walking tacos, dessert and drinks available for a free will donation.
