The Mary J Barnett Memorial Library will be hosting an informational online program.

Library Director Jerri Hawkins says that there will be a free one hour lecture on traveling with dementia called “Road Scholars – Age Well.” She tells Raccoon Valley Radio why she wanted to host the program.

“I saw another library was hosting it, and I was very interested in that due to personal connections. And I thought that would be a great opportunity to show something like that in this area. Because a lot of times people feel like you’re stuck. You feel like if you’re caring for someone that is struggling with that disability, and that disease, that you can’t do things. But you still want to go travel. And you still want to go see some family members or this or that.”

Hawkins mentions that the program covers things like practical strategies and insights on traveling when you have a loved one with dementia related diseases, and that there will also be a question and answer segment with experts on the topic. She adds that the program begins at 2pm Friday, and would be perfect for caregivers, family members and friends.
