Hunters in Iowa can now participate in the rabbit and squirrel seasons into the winter.
According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer for Dallas County Dustin Eighmy, this is a great chance for younger individuals to test their skills with the weather being pretty favorable. He points out the advantages that these seasons bring.
“Squirrel hunting is one of those things that you can just set up next to a tree and be quiet. Don’t have to do a lot of walking for those squirrels. Same with rabbits, it’s kind of fun. Those are pastime hunting seasons that sometimes people forget about.”
Eighmy recommends that people wear blaze orange to be highly visible to others who may be out hunting. Squirrel season runs through January 31, 2026, while rabbit season goes until February 28, 2026.
