It’s week number two of high school football in the state of Iowa, as Adel-DeSoto-Minburn gears up for their home opener in Adel with Ballard coming into town tonight.
The Tigers are 1-0 on the year, coming off a dominant 45-20 victory over the Winterset Huskies last Friday, while the Bombers fell 26-7 to the Pella Dutch. In that opening game, ADM senior Quarterback Hudson Shull was 12/17 through the air with 157 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Ballard junior QB Bryce Miller was 9/21 with 123 yards.
Tiger Head Coach Doug Winkowitsch points out that he liked what he saw from both the offensive and defensive side, specifically in the first half when ADM went up 24-0. As the mindset shifts to tonight, Winkowitsch highlights it’s been a good week of practice, and knows the players will be pumped up to play in front of their home crowd.
“Sometimes it’s hard for the underclassmen to realize that. We’ve actually talked through that a little bit, and had the seniors share some of that. What happens the first time you walk out to Tiger Stadium and you see our home crowd and the excitement, and you just have to make sure that you stay within yourself and not get yourself so amped up that you can’t think straight. We’ve definitely addressed that, because we just want the kids to come out and play loose and have fun, and understand that there is going to be that extra element for that home opener.”
In all-time matchups, the Tigers lead the series 7-4 overall, including winning the past four games. Kickoff is set for 7pm from Tiger Stadium in Adel, as Raccoon Valley Radio will carry the broadcast on K107.9 KKRF, starting at 6:30pm.
